Comparing the difference between dry blast and wet blast showing the drastic surface differences between the two processes. If needed you can always expect a smoother surface with wet blast over dry blasting. With that being said wet blast can still be aggressive when needed and that is determined by running the correct abrasive for your process.
The differences between wet blast and dry blast are many. Below are some of the many advantages that wet blast has over dry blast.
- No heat buildup or warping
- No dust
- No dust collection system required
- Quieter machine operation 70-75 decibels max
- Can run finer abrasives
- Opportunity to mix different abrasive types
- No hot spots when blasting
- Better uniform finish
- Lower consumable cost
- Longer machine life due to the lack of abrasiveness inside of the machine
Questions you should answer when choosing a Closed Loop vs. Open Loop System
- Do you have water close by where the machine will sit and operate?
- Do you have a drain where the machine will sit?
- Will you run any other additive in the machine ex. Corrosion Inhibitor, Anti Microbial etc.?
Do you need tight process control? Very important questions for those that need exact processes each and every time you use our vapor honing system. Maybe you have an aerospace specification that you need exact amounts of abrasive to water or you are working on a coating prep application. The media density check is a great way to allow managers of your blasting department to tightly control your operations with one simple and quick check. Ask for this option on your sales quote.

One of the most common questions asked is air compressor requirements. With any of our machine you need a minimum of 20 CFM to fully operate a vapor honing cabinet to its full potential. This is a process that requires a lot of air when pushing 8lbs per gallon worth of water and abrasive. For shops that are looking for a new air compressor we recommend two different brands in this short video.
Many different types of abrasives can be used depending on your process at hand. One major focus of ours is to get you into the best abrasive for your process or specification. We do this by testing internally for you on your application. Also, we have over 25 years of combined experience in selecting the right abrasive. Let us show you how we can help improve your process today.
Surface roughness testing and data is imperative in most industrial blasting processes. Let us help you with our internal data on different material types and abrasives needed to achieve certain surface Ra values. Ask us how we can help.
Customer Reviews
Probably the most practical sized machine for most cleaning or surface finishing applications. I have never seen a product built so tough before this is a rock solid product.
