What is a Water Sand Blaster?
Water Sand Blaster what exactly is it? In this article we will explain just exactly what this tool is and how to use it. Water sand blaster is often used when one has never heard or used any wet abrasive blasting equipment. Vapor honing or wet blast process is coined because of the mixing of abrasive and water together to form the blasting medium. Vapor honing has been around since the early 60’s but until recent years hasn’t really taken off until now. There are a few reasons why the shift and change is happening but well spare those details in this article.
Picture This
The easiest way to explain what a water sand blaster does is to picture how Gojo hand gel works. By suspending dry abrasive into a liquid like Gojo. You can scrub and clean a surface much faster and easier than the traditional one. I use the Gojo example because it is the same when cleaning your dirty hands. Imagine for a second someone tried propelling dry abrasive at your sticky grimy hands what would happen? Exactly they would probably look about the same except much worse. Now the dry abrasive is embedded into the grease that’s on your hands. In a water sand blaster the water gently suspends the abrasive allowing it to scrub the part cleaning and lapping at times while washing away surface contaminates much different than dry blasting.
NOW and the FUTURE
This is where a Water sand blaster comes into expedite the cleaning process. Water sand blaster gently washes away contaminates on the surface of any part without embedding abrasive. It also does not prematurely wear a part due from excessive friction and heat. The wet blasting process is very simple in nature from a process prospective. From our experience get the abrasive combination wrong and the opposite is true and the technology is ineffective and frustrating at best.
On the flip side it takes years of engineering to develop a great wet blast machine to effectively mix the abrasive and water while sustaining the abuse 24/7. We at Vapor Honing Technologies have developed equipment for fortune 500 companies down to the hobbyist. Not all equipment is equal nor is the price but you should understand what your needs are first and then put a max dollar spend on your purchase to get started in the right direction.
