Can You Vapor Blast Plastics?

As Vapor Honing Technologies grow we have pushed our wet blast system to the next level. From restoring automotive parts to motorcycles, we now can say that we are working with plastics. So the question is, “can you vapor blast plastics?” Our capabilities are being utilized in many fields and plastics are one of them. We all understand that there are many types of plastics and they all come in different sizes and shapes. Some plastics are fragile and some are very sturdy. What if I told you that vapor blasting is gentle on the surface?

How is it gentle on the surface?

Vapor blasting is a surface refinishing process that combines water, compressed air, and abrasives to clean and restore surfaces. This process is also gentle on any type of surface, whether it is plastic, metal, rubber, or wood. So, how is this process gentle on the surfaces? You can thank the water because the water cushions the abrasive upon impact. Unlike the traditional dry blasting process, it relies on sheer impact to remove contaminates or paints from the surface. This means that dry blasting will damage the surface, whereas vapor blasting will not. Now that you know the vapor blasting procedure is gentle on the surface, the next thing is abrasive.

Abrasives

There are many types of abrasive and like grits, they come in different shapes and sizes. When you are Vapor Honing, the finer the media the less it takes away. This is true for both dry and wet blast systems. The only difference is that wet blasting has water to cushion the impact, whereas dry blasting doesn’t. This also means that the abrasives in a wet blast system last longer than a dry blast system. The reason why it lasts longer is because the abrasive is not breaking itself upon impact. With the help of water, it also contains all the abrasives making it dust-free.

Putting it all together

Vapor blasting plastics is revolutionary. Cleaning plastics or prepping them for paint could not be easier. Just remember, our process is gentle on any kind of surface.
