Slurry blasting is the future of surface preparation and surface finishing process. Slurry blasting by mixing water with abrasives you can either prepare the surface for paint or provide a level of surface roughness to the part acceptable to your post processing needs. This revolutionary process is capable of many different surface finishes on any different metal type known to man. It can also prepare the surface for many coating systems used in manufacturing today. With wet blasting you also get a less abrasive form of blasting opening the door to new applications you never though existed. As a mechanical engineer over the last 7 years I have seen a major increase in demand for vapour blasting globally and for all the right reasons. In the application pictured Vapor Honing Technologies has demonstrated the capabilities of using wet slurry blasting on a CNC machined piece of brass to clean and smooth the surface before other secondary operations. Thousands of machinist are learning about this technology to aid in the tedious and time consuming post processing needs of today’s advanced manufacturing. Engineers have also started to consider the range of surface finishing options any wet slurry system has to offer and their repatability that is provided with the process. The repeatability is something overlooked many times but shouldn’t be taken lightly. The wet system preserves the abrasive longer than any dry blast system allowing more repeatable results over a certain period. Also, the hot spot or blast pattern in a wet system is much wider and consistent over the surface providing better coverage and making the blasting easier to keep consistent. We are here to help walk you through the different techniques and equipment options to see what works best for you and your application.
