What is Wet Abrasive Blasting?
Wet Abrasive Blasting uses water and abrasive to clean or prep many different materials for coatings or to achieve a certain level of surface roughness. There are a couple variables in a wet blasting system that can change the entire outcome if necessary providing with you with processing options for high quality results.
Versatility and Effectiveness
Some early ideas about wet blasting perceived this process as a one size fits all solution with very little versatility but this has been proven otherwise. There are variables within the process can be changed to reach a desired effect of parts to achieve you or your customers desired result.
The Wet process is perfect for blasting aluminum, steel, brass, rubber and yes even plastics, to achieve either a certain surface Ra or to prepare for other post operations. At Vapor Honing, we’ve seen this process work very effectively in the cleaning of different materials and surfaces; like brass without damage.
Wet Blasting can also be used in the Automotive and Aerospace Industry as a safe and effective process to to clean and remanufacture internal engine components such as pistons, valves, and bearing journals. Parts needing the tightest tolerance can be treated using our process.
The suspension of abrasive in the water stream is what changes the entire blasting process and is partially why our product is so effective. The water in this process helps cushion the abrasive media allowing a gentle cleaning effect to be had on the surface.
This does not discount the fact that if the correct media is added to the system and pressures are increased, you can make the media very aggressive for coating and surface removal if needed.
