Vapor Honing Gasket Removal

Engine Gasket Removal with Vapor Honing

Vapor honing is a great process for restoring purposes. We have a Honda CB350 valve cover and we want to show you how vapor honing/wet blasting strips away traces of gaskets. This valve cover has been sitting for many years, and the gasket on it has been baked onto the valve cover.

The video shows you how nasty the gasket is and how well wet blasting removes the traces of gasket off.

To be exact, vapor honing a gasket that is still intact will do nothing. In fact, our machines will not damage any type of plastic or rubber. The machine is too passive and the process is not aggressive enough to take off gaskets that been sitting for many years.

The material of the gasket is too tough. The machine can only take off the remaining traces of gasket after scrapping it.

To get the best results, the gaskets needs to be thinned out by removing it with a scrapping tool without damaging the part itself. After that, the gasket will be loosen up and will be easier to vapor hone.

Vapor honing comes from a more gentle approach. The abrasive rolls off the surface and helps keep the surface cool and lubricated. Unlike sand blast, it will scuff the surface and build up heat.

For rebuilding and restoration purposes, we do not want the media to be aggressive. Vapor honing process will deliver the best finish result in a matter of minutes without harming the surface.
