How to Clean And Polish Gold Jewelry Using Vapor Honing
Have any jewelry that needs a good cleaning and polishing? If so, you should try blasting it in a vapor honing machine. That’s right, our machines can polish and clean your gold rings, and any other jewelry you have.
What we Recommend Using for Cleaning and Polishing Your Gold Rings
To get the best clean and polish on your gold rings we recommend using a machine from our benchtop series, and using a nonaggressive or fine mesh abrasive when blasting.
Due to the stature of jewelry we highly recommend using our smaller benchtop machines. While you are welcome to use an industrial size machine on your jewelry, the benchtop series is perfect for anyone looking to save space in their jewelry store. An added benefit of the benchtop series is that they have a top window, allowing you to easily see into the machine while blasting.
Now that you have an idea of what to blast the gold rings in, let us look at what to blast with. If you are looking to solely clean your jewelry the non-aggressive soda abrasive is the way to go. After you clean it you can use a fine glass bead to polish and brighten the gold rings.
Besides the type of abrasive you use, it is also important to get the pressure right when blasting something as delicate as jewelry. We recommend starting at a low PSI, increasing as needed, and then going to pump pressure. In the video at the top of the page we started at 10 PSI and then went to pump pressure leaving the rings looking fantastic. If you are going for a burnishing effect on your metal we recommend blasting at pump pressure for atleast a minute after blasing at pressure. If you follow these guidelines your gold rings will be gorgeous.
Will Vapor Homing Harm the Stone On Your Gold Rings?
Despite, the great results vapor blasting leaves on your gold rings, people do not do it because they are concerned about hurting the gemstone. Vapor blasting will not harm your jewelry’s stone. Instead it gets underneath the stone set due to the clean by flow nature of our process. Dry blasting on the other hand, would aggressively hit the jewelry potentially harming the stone as well as removing essential metal that hold it in place. With vapor blasting, you do not have that issue, but instead get fully clean, and polished gold rings.
Conclusion
You can clean and polish your gold rings with a vapor honing system. To get a great finish we recommend using a non-aggressive or finer abrasive and using 10 or less psi. Keep in mind that this process will not harm your stone. For more information on what our machines can do for your jewelry, please contact us at (828) 202-5563.
